Behind the Seams: Warby Parker for Alex MillShare
A core tenet of Alex Mill is taking great design and not, well, overly designing it. We believe timeless style starts with a uniform, certain pieces that build the backbone of your daily wardrobe. And if there’s one thing that truly makes up a daily wardrobe, it’s a great pair of glasses or sunglasses. Our creative director Somsack has been wearing his pair of Warby Parker Downing shades for ages. So when we were looking for a partner for an eyewear collaboration, Warby Parker was an obvious—and more importantly, thrilling—choice. We gave their best-selling and universally flattering Downing frames an Alex Mill touch with three exclusive-to-us fall shades. Then we had one of our favorite photographers, Bryan Derballa, capture our and Warby Parker’s team in them to show just how true the “looks good on everyone” thing is.
Neil Blumenthal, the company’s co-founder and co-CEO, explained the partnership: “When we produced our first line of glasses, we prioritized designing products that combine style and timelessness. We used a guiding principle that we didn't want to look at photos of ourselves 20 years from now and regret the style decisions we had made. (Our Design Team still references that principle today.) Alex Mill's team shares a similar commitment to balancing compelling design with classic details. We think this sunwear collection combines and celebrates our perspectives nicely.”
The sunglass shape of choice for us was Downing (our creative director Somsack’s favorite) which is polished with a round lens and keyhole bridge—it literally looks great on everyone. See?
