Introducing Spring '19: Behind the Design With Somsack

When we decided to add women’s to our line we knew the collection would reflect the same straightforward-but-thoughtful approach as our men’s. Somsack, our creative director and co-founder explained, “I asked myself: What would one need in their closet today to look their best with as much ease as possible? What are the staples of everyday life? How can we make them emotional while maintaining what makes them so essential?”

Spring didn’t start with a city or muse or even a decade as so often designers reference when dreaming up a collection.  For us at Alex Mill “There’s always a human component: What are people looking for and desiring? After that we throw in a healthy dose of pure instinct and inspiration to make these pieces stylish and feel good.”

“We love neutrals here—namely navy, white, khaki, heather grey and olive—with that as a base this season we layer on a French blue, buttery yellow, a touch of pink and what we call 'fiery tomato.’”

“Each season will be designed with the same approach and edit, cause at the end of the day I’d like to think regardless of season, people always want a certain ease and to simply look good.”

SPRING ‘19 FREE ASSOCIATION

If the spring collection were a breakfast food, it would be:
A New York bagel. Reliable, easy but so personalizable. (Mine’s an everything lightly toasted with vegetable cream cheese.)

If the spring collection were a band it would be:
The Traveling Wilburys. Each piece/musician is essential in their own right but so amazing when brought together.
