All the little things that set us apart.
A special dyeing process that we use to achieve a vintage, lived-in appearance. Instead of using pre-dyed fabric to construct a garment, we complete the piece first and then dye it. Our favorite part about this process is that no two pieces are alike.
One of our favorite dyeing techniques because it gives super rich color, while also using natural materials, like pomegranates, seeds and indigo. Best part: over time, the dye shifts and changes on the fabric—it’s why they call it “living color.”
One of our OG fabrics (we started out on a mission to create the perfect tee), slub cotton is a bit denser than your regular cotton tee, yet still soft and breathable, with a bit of texture that we love. It makes for tees that drape perfectly, have the just-right weight, and retain their fit after many washes.
In the 1940's military jumpsuits were made out of herringbone. It's lightweight, durable, and creates beautiful highs and lows when garment-dyed (our signature move).
Originating in the mid 1800s, genuine corozo buttons are made from the seeds of the tagua palm tree and take color beautifully. Unlike plastic, corozo buttons don’t scratch easily and have a cool, smooth feel.
An old school detail we like to use on the inside of our jackets. Little buttons are sewn behind the outside-facing buttons (hence, backer) to keep the outside buttons more secure—plus, we love them for a pop of color.
For us, it’s a year-round thing—and we’ve got options. Two-ply cashmere (or double the cashmere, as we like to say) for cooler days and a more lightweight version for layering or warmer weather. We also use a special wash to give each piece an even softer handfeel.
Fact: we’re huge fans of a good vintage find and our special vintage wash is our way of achieving that same lived-in look with beautiful highs and lows in the color and faded seams. Also, the special mix of cotton and recycled yarns gives each piece a sturdy yet worn in feel.
Our go-to: 100% cotton denim, zero percent stretch. When it comes to a fabric as iconic as denim, we like to keep it classic.
Aside from having a vintage look and feel that we really love, this fabric's 50/50 recycled blend keeps things both substantial and super soft. Tiny flecks of natural cotton throughout give the denim slight variations that make each piece unique, plus our special
Made from 100% cotton, our washed canvas is super durable and soft, which makes it the perfect material for our Perfect Totes. Garment-dyeing the canvas allows us to create cool highs and lows in the color, just like your favorite vintage find.
One of our go-to fabrics for shirting and jumpsuits. It dyes and washes beautifully and can be soft and sturdy at the same time – making it perfect for year-round wear.
A vivid, denim-like shade made using plant-based ingredients and rainwater. We're big fans of using natural indigo to give new life to our overstock styles.
This 100% cotton fabric is one of our top picks for shirting. It’s smooth with a crisp finish and looks even better not pressed (we love making things as easy as possible).
Made from 100% cotton woven in Portugal. It comes in a variety of stripes- both bold and classic. We love its year-round weight and soft handfeel.
When we want something a little more delicate and classic for our shirts or cardigans, we opt for real shell buttons. They’ve got a cool reflective shine and are made to last.
Used for some of our most beloved sweaters (like our customer-favorite Button-Back Sweater), this substantial 100% cotton yarn has a more substantial feel and a season-less weight that makes the pieces wearable year-round.
When it comes to pockets, we’re picky about everything from size and depth to function and shape. For example, we can’t live without interior pockets in our jackets...and making a pocket that perfectly fits your phone? Well, it just makes sense. For us, it’s a utilitarian detail that should never be overlooked and results in pieces that you’ll reach for more often.
Aside from using special stitching as a way of making clothes last longer, we also like to use it as a design element or to add a pop of color to our interiors.
...or ties, in some cases. You’ll find these on most of our jumpsuits, chinos, and blazers—discreet tabs or ties that you can tighten or loosen up to customize the fit of the piece.
A total classic and a favorite of ours in cooler temperature. Made in a 100% cotton, it comes in a variety of patterns, weights and washes— all perfect for layering.
Created in 2012 (the year we launched), this signature detail can be found on some of our most iconic pieces like our chinos and jackets.
